

Wilma was born in Bloomfield, Indiana to the late Stanley Shanklin and Ruth Shanklin Hash and was preceded in death by two brothers. Wilma is survived by step children Deborah K. Landers; Wallace R. (Ace) Yakey Jr., (Beth), ; Stephanie F. Limpus (David); and step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wilma’s working years included work as a secretary with Standard Oil(Ind.) serving roles as receptionist and legal secretary. Also, worked with American United Life. Wilma retired in 1984 from her position with her husband, Wally Yakey’s business, Y & B Industrial Painters. Wilma’s resume also includes seven years as a dance instructor with Arthur Murray Dance Studios. She taught in Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Miami, Anderson(IN), and Chicago.
Wilma was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. Within the church she participated in Monday Crafts, PW Bazaar, and Christmas Benevolence.
Wilma and Wallace ‘Wally’ Yakey were married for more than 45 years at his passing in 2014.
Wally and Wilma were avid golfers. Wilma kept a record of all of the courses where they had played, numbering more than 250 courses by 2015. She has all of her score cards from hundreds of rounds of golf.
Golf was a passion for Wilma and she spent the time practicing that was required to build significant skills. Wilma became rather successful, winning eight championships - five championships at Highland C.C. (Indianapolis) , one at Zellwood Golf and C.C.(Florida), OGLA, Sr. Div. and Mid-Am Sr. Div. (Indiana)
Visitation will be from 10am to 11am, Thursday, September 26 at Second Presbyterian Church in the parlor with a service to follow at 11am in the Milner Chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or charity of your choosing.
