

Born in Rankinville, on November 7, 1919, he was a son of the late Daniel James and Jessie (Cameron) MacNeil. Alex was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou, and long time resident of Inverary Manor, Inverness.
Over the years, Alex was involved in many ventures but primarily focused on farming, pulp cutting and trucking. He was known as a man of faith that valued a hard day’s work, had a unique and witty sense of humour, could tell a good story and believed that good common sense goes a long way. He helped a lot of people and loved playing cards.
Alex served in the Second World War in the Army with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and the Carleton York Regiment First Canadian Infantry Division. He was a member of Captain Angus L MacDonald, Branch 132 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Inverness. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Anne (Campbell); sons, Sandy (Rosie), Mabou; Donald (Linda), Pickle Lake, Ont.; Lawrence (Judy), Sudbury, Ont.; Archie (Margie), Mabou; Neil (Louise), Mabou; David (Darlene), Sudbury Ont.; Vincent, Earl (Arlene), Mabou; and daughters, Rebecca MacDonald (late Joseph MacDonald), Colindale; Jeanette MacNeil, (Halifax); Mary Hoopey, (Don Hoopey), Sackville; Marion MacLean (John MacLean), Mabou; and Ramona Miller (Barry Miller), Inverness; Alex is survived by brothers, Joe (Florence), Eddy (Late Gertie); sisters, Peggy Small, Maude Campbell, (Omer), Catherine (late Archie) MacDonald. He was predeceased by a son, Angus (Marguerite), Foot Cape; brothers, Neil, Edward; sisters, Rebecca, Betty and Annie Mae, numerous nieces and nephews, 55 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held in the vestry of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou, on Sunday November, 7 from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday November, 9 in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou with Fr. Angus Morris officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to Inverary Manor, Inverness.
