MACDONALD,(SCOTT),BRENDA -50.Today, the lights in our world are dimmer and our hearts are heavy with sorrow. On Tuesday, August 28,2012, Brenda MacDonald, of South West Mabou, died very suddenly in Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney with her husband, brother, and brother-in-law by her side. We, her family, have lost our beautiful, gracious, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend and we deeply mourn her passing.
Brenda was born on September 2, 1961, in Dartmouth, where she lived with her parents and siblings. She graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1979. In 1982 she graduated from Mount St Vincent University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and worked in the agricultural industry in Guelph and in Wolfville. She then attended NSCC for a diploma in Medical Records Management. In 1992, Brenda moved to Inverness Consolidated Hospital to assume an administrative position which she maintained until her death. Her many friends and co-workers will miss her at the workplace.
Very early in her move to Inverness, Brenda met "the love of her life", her husband, Angus. Their three children, Laurel, Martha, and Scott adored their mother as did she love the entire family unit. Brenda was a consummate wife, mother, and homemaker. Her children were taught many life skills from Brenda which will help them through the next phase of their young lives.
Brenda had an unwavering faith in God. She was a loyal member of St Stephen's United Church in Port Hood. Over the years she had become involved with the church and assisted with numerous events. Her fellow parishioners are truly saddened and have stated they will miss her presence in their midst.
Brenda is survived by her soul-mate, husband Angus; her shining stars, children Laurel, Martha, and Scott; her brother, Alan Scott, who had come to live with the family a short time ago and with whom Brenda was very close; her nieces, Jennifer Young (Ross) and Joanna Brand (Jeff) and her nephew, Matthew Brand(Maclean). Also she is survived by her aunt, Alberta Noble, brother-in-law, Ken Brand and numerous cousins.
Her MacDonald brothers and sisters will be forever grateful for the time they had with Brenda and we will never forget her: Alanna(John), Alex(Marjorie), Betty, Anne, Margaret, Bernie(Janice), Stanley(Catherine), and Kevin(Margie).
Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Ken and Alta Scott, and her beloved sister, Linda Brand all in 2001. She was also predceased by her sister-in-law, Joan MacDonald and brother-in-law, Wayne MacDonell.
Brenda possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humour. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanour that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith.
Visitation will take place in Port Hood Resting Place on Friday, August 31, from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, at 11:00 .a.m. in St Peter's Catholic Church, Port Hood with Reverend Maggie Plante officiating, assisted by Father Vincent VanZutphen. Interment will follow in Union Protestant Cemetery. Reception to follow in St Peter's Parish Hall.
