Cameron James MacDonald, age 84 of Little Judique, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on July 22, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Theresa (MacLellan) MacDonald; sons, Stevie (Denise) Halifax, Robbie, Texas, Trevor (Mary) Little Judique, Angus (Ann) Little Judique; daughters, Anne, Mabou, Brenda (Peter) Mabou, Lila (Benny) Mabou, Nancy (Darryl) Pickering and Helen (Jamie) Port Hood; as well as 28 grandchildren and 20 great -grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Rose (Sonny), Helen, Syl (Jeanette) and Elizabeth.
Cameron was born in Little Judique on July 25, 1937, to the late Angus D. (Big John) and Margaret (Livingstone) MacDonald. Cameron is predeceased by his parents, brothers Roderick (Doddie), John Francis, Neily and great-grand-daughter Halle.
Cameron was a member of the Port Hood and District Volunteer Fire Department for sixty-one years and as a founding member he was known for his dedication and commitment to the Department. He became a permanent fixture of the Chestico Days Parade in Port Hood, at the wheel of the Fire Department’s historic 1934 fire truck. He started lobster fishing as a young boy with his father and retired at the age of eighty. He also spent his years as a carpenter in the local area and was a long-standing member of the Carpenters Union, Local 1588. Over the years, Cameron was also heavily involved with the improvements and maintenance of the Little Judique Harbour facilities, where he spent much of his spare time and energy creating a useful and important community harbour. Among his many accomplishments, his interest in mechanics and cars led to the creation of the MacDonald Speedway, a dirt track that he built with his brothers on the old farm on Livingstone Road.
He was deeply committed to his family and well loved by all his grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed large family get-togethers, especially, when his great-grandchildren were present.
Visitation will be on Wednesday July 27, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in Port Hood and Area Resting Place. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday July 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Port Hood with Father Eugene Morris officiating with burial to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Port Hood and District Volunteer Fire Department or Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
