It is with immense sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our deeply loved and devoted husband, father, papa, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Charles Bernard "Bernie" Beaton passed away on June 6, 2026, at the age of 53, following a hard-fought and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Bernie was unbelievably strong — a fighter in every sense of the word. Throughout his battle he showed the same determination and resilience that defined his entire life. He faced every challenge with courage and perseverance, never allowing difficult moments to define him. Throughout his journey, he never lost his sense of humor or the quiet strength and resilience that shaped the way he lived.
A private person by nature, Bernie showed his love quietly but deeply. No matter which coast he called home, he was always there when it mattered most, offering love, support and his quiet reassurance that family would always come first. He was a man whose love knew no bounds and whose greatest joy in life was his family. His impact on those who knew and loved him was immeasurable.
Bernie was born on February 19, 1973, to Mary Anne Beaton and the late Donald H. Beaton. He married his high school sweetheart, Bernadette, on September 10, 1994, and they had been inseparable ever since. Together, Bernie and Bernadette raised four beautiful children, teaching them the importance of strength, independence, and following their dreams — exactly as Bernie would have wanted. Nothing made him prouder than watching each of them become the people they are today.
Early in his career, Bernie spent many years cutting pulp before beginning a trade that would define his life. For more than 25 years he worked as a Pipefitter, foreman on many job sites, taking him across Canada, to Spain, and many places throughout the years including working locally, at Riverfront Contractors Ltd in Inverness. No matter where he went, he was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and genuine personality, leaving a lasting impression on those he worked alongside and forming lifelong friendships.
While his absence leaves an unimaginable void, his love and memory will live on through those who knew and loved him most and who now carry his strength forward, his wife of 31 years, Bernadette; children, Charles (Erica) of Kempt Road, Mary (Riley) of Alberta, Andrew (Melanie) of Grand Etang, and Katie (Dakota) of Mabou Coal Mines; grandchildren, Jaxtyn, Harley Jean, and Stevie; mother, Mary Anne Beaton; siblings, Sarah (Richard), Donald Alexander, Ann (Brian), John, Finley (Brenda), Linda (David), Diane (Alan), Wayne (Beverly), Leslie (Susan), Karen (Doug), Sandy (Cathy), Michael, Marilyn and Jared (Ellen), mother-in-law, Marjorie; brother-in-law Stephen (Angelyn); sister-in-law Annette (Stephen); many nieces and nephews; and his furry friend, Maddy.
He is now reunited with loved ones who passed before him, including his grandson, Jackson; father, Donald H. Beaton; brothers, Hugh John, Ronald Gerard, and Francis Beaton; his sister-in-law, Cathy Beaton; and his father-in-law, Stephen MacIsaac.
Special thanks to all who stood beside Bernie and his family throughout his journey. Our sincere gratitude to Dr. Teresa Donovan, Dr. Glenna Calder, Dr. Annalee Coakley, the Inverness Oncology Department and EHS for the exceptional care, compassion and support shown to Bernie and his family.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 11, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the vestry of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou. A Funeral Mass will follow on Friday, June 12, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Church, Mabou. Burial to be held at a later date.
