With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Colin Brian Basker on February 28, 2025. Collie was a loyal, loving man who touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Collie was the kind of person who could brighten even the darkest of days — whether through his infectious smile, a well-timed story from his Hoff days, or memories of running the streets with Hughie, Lloyd, Alec and the boys.
Collie was a hard worker, spending long days covered in drywall dust, never complaining, always providing for those he loved. He met our mom when we were young, and without hesitation, he took us in and raised us like his own. He was more than a partner — he was our father. He never asked for credit, but anyone who knew him could see the love he carried for his family in everything he did.
Collie found joy in life’s simple pleasures — heading out on bike rides, going on hikes, or capturing the beauty of the world through his camera lens. But his greatest happiness came from spending time with his granddaughter, Elodie, playing and laughing like a big kid right alongside her.
One of the greatest gifts Collie gave us was his family — brothers, Steven (Linda), Norman (Ann) and Chris (Lisa) Colin (Linda) and Lawrence (Cathy); sister, Anna- who, as the years went on, became our family too. Through thick and thin, we’ve grown tighter as a family.
To our mom — Collie’s best friend and soulmate for 29 years — Her strength over this past year has been nothing short of inspiring. You’ve sacrificed so much to keep him comfortable, never once complaining, showing us what true love really looks like.
Collie is predeceased by his parents, Colin and Theresa; stepmother, Mary; sister, Anna; son, Garrett and daughter, Judith lost in infancy.
Survived by his wife of 29 years Kathy; sons, Jeremy (Colleen) and Chris (Kelly); granddaughter, Elodie as well as many nieces and nephews.
This is a tragic time for all of us, but if there’s one thing Collie would want, it’s for us to keep going — to crack a smile through the pain, to take care of one another, and to always turn the Jays or the Leafs game up just a little louder so he can hear it.
Donations in Collie's name can be given to the Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or the Inverness Garden Club.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 11th, 2025 from 10-10:45 am with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove. Reception to follow in Inverness Fire Hall.
