With heavy hearts we regret to announce the passing of Don Van Den Bergh of Inverness, Cape Breton, on Sunday, September 25, 2022 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital after battling cancer.
He was a son of the late Lucy (Cormier) and Desire J. Vandenberg of Strathlorne.
Don is survived by his two daughters, Dana (& grand-daughter Daisy) and Dharma both of Owen Sound, Ontario. He is also survived by his nine sisters, Josephine Vandenburghe, New Brunswick; Elizabeth (Noel Parsons) Deepdale; Florence McQuaid, Truro; Connie (Paul Black) Amherst; Becky (Paul Ohrt) Ottawa; Rose Vandenberg, Ottawa; Vangie (Philippe Babin), Antigonish; Avita Vandenberg (Rob Woodward) Deepdale; and Shirley Vandenbergh, Oakville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his younger brother, Emile; and his nephew, Bryan.
Don was known as "The Mayor", if you wanted to know the latest, he was the one to ask. He was quick witted, very sarcastic and had a great sense of humor. Don was a "Rolling Stone", he was always on the move and couldn't stay in one place to long. As Don would say, "I have places to go and people to see". If you knew him, you were guaranteed to get a wave and a smile to try and brighten your day.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand, even if he wasn't able to as his health declined. There wasn't a mean bone in Don, he was warm hearted, cheerful and respected by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the amazing nurses and staff of both Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital and Central Inverness Palliative Care Society who cared for Don and always went above and beyond and treated him as if he were family over the many years he required their care.
Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Thursday, September 29th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 30th at 11am in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Daniel Tshimbalanga officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
