Each time you met him always a big hello & his great smile.  As Dad would say he 
was a very hard worker & they liked to 
tease one another.  He will be missed.

On behalf of the Rankin family of Judique, we pass on our sincerest condolences to Donald's family.
Donald was almost like a son to our father Peter.  He spent many, many hours on our farm.  He was a close friend to the boys (Pete, David, Lauchie, and later Melvin, and Shawn.  We spent many good times with Donald.  He was extremely strong, could run like the wind, and was always up for a bit of fun. He was an expert haymaker, and many good times were had during these summer days.  Through haymaking, he even got to be friends with our brothers-in-law Donnie (from Terry) and Des (from Charlotte).  Whether it was haymaking, cleaning out the manure pile in the spring, or cutting fence posts, nobody could compare with the gusto that Donald brought to his activities; he really was the best!  
Our father Peter, loved and appreciated Donald so much that he once told Donald that he could have the pick of any one of Peter's 9 daughters.  I don't know if the girls were quite as anxious to be sold off, but the older ones: Terry, Trudy, Elaine, Eileen, and Bernadette all thought of Donald as a close family friend.  
The Rankin girls weren't famous as athletes, but one summer Donald took it upon himself to teach them (and the 3 boys) to play softball.  He made a homemade bat, wooden bases, and we used a sponge ball.  We had some great games in our driveway, between the house and the barn.  Donald of course, would almost always hit it over the clothesline ditch, which was the home run boundary.  He was a good teacher and a patient coach.  
Donald was never in a bad mood and when Dad was showing us how to butcher, or remove a nail from a cow's foot he was a serious student. 
Donald was especially cherished by the 3 boys, Pete, David, and Lauchie; he was like a lovable older brother.  
We say a prayer for Donald, that he will have an honoured place in the world hereafter.  He much deserves it.

This was a great day , the kids loved it , playing in the yard , talking , laughing with you . Getting a chance to relive the childhood I did , I’m going to miss you Grampie ❤️

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Donald.  I will miss stopping in to chat and to be updated with his stories. To a hard working, devoted parish member and a family man you will be missed.

Donald was born in Judique in 1944 to the late Alec Dan and Marie MacLellan, the eighth of twelve children.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marie; and siblings, Peter, Isobel, Elizabeth, Willie and Irene.
He is survived by his sons, Donald (Donna), Darryl (Kate); granddaughter, Crystal; siblings, Lawrence MacLellan, Theresa (Cameron d.) MacDonald, John (Danena) MacLellan, Agatha (Maurice d.) McQuaid, Mary Margaret (Robert) MacDonald, Isobel (Smokey) MacNeil; sister-in-law, Gloria MacLellan and numerous nieces and nephews.
