17 December , 193624 November , 2018

Father Angus Roderick Morris, son of the late Florence (MacDonald) and Patrick Morris of Colindale passed away on November 24, 2018 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born on December 17, 1936, (the same day as Pope Francis). Father Angus was very honored to share this special event with the Pope. Father Angus began his education in Colindale School and then attended Port Hood Academy. After high school he worked for several years in farming and fishing with his father. He also experienced work in the mines in Elliot Lake, Ont. In 1958 he began a B.A. program at St. F. X. After his graduation in 1962, he entered the Eudist Seminary in Halifax and was ordained a priest by Bishop William Power on May 19, 1966.

Throughout most of the 52 years of his priesthood, Father Angus served in various parishes in the Diocese of Antigonish. For seven years he worked in the Latin American Apostolate in Honduras. He loved and was loved in all the parishes in which he served. He was gifted with a great facility for recalling people’s names which was much appreciated especially by the elderly and youth.

Father Angus was gifted with a special love for the sick and shut-ins and spent many hours ministering to them. He was also blessed with a beautiful gift of music which he shared with people of all ages. He was proud to direct The Cape Breton Fiddlers for a period of time. He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed sharing stories with his friends. His ability for delivering the Gospel message in a concise way was a gift recognized by his congregations. He cherished being a priest and was most thankful to God for being chosen to follow Jesus in this most special calling.

Father Angus is survived by sisters, Catherine, CND, Sydney; Mary, CND, Halifax and Teresa (John vanZutphen) Port Hood; brothers: Father Eugene, Harbour View and Joseph (Mary MacLellan) of Port Hood. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Eugene Morris and priests of the Diocese at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be at a later date. Donations may be made to Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Special thanks to the compassionate medical staff of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. The family is extremely grateful to all the wonderful volunteers who helped Father Angus during his many months in the hospital. Father Angus deeply appreciated the services provided by Home Care Workers and the many friends who comforted him with their talents, prayers and companionship. Father was so gifted with his healing blessings ,each time I had to go for back surgery or Lab tests I always went to see Fr.Angus for his Blessings and prayers. I would like to share how thoughtful Fr.Angus was ,when he was in the CBR Hospital and I went in to see him, with in a few short minutes with him,he asked me if I got my reports back from the lab and was every thing he was in discomfort himself at that time but yet was concerned about how all went for me,We enjoyed our visits with Fr,Angus at his home in Port Hood . we'll always keep those fond memories of Fr,Angus
