It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Francis Eugene Campbell, age 65, at home in Riverville, Inverness County, on April 25, 2019 from heart complications. He was a loving and caring husband of his recently deceased wife Collena (MacKinnon) who he selflessly cared for during her recent battle with cancer. Always a few steps behind Collena on their sunset walks on the Inverness Boardwalk, it’s fitting that Francis now joins her two months after her passing. Francis was also an incredibly caring father to his son Clarke (Cara), Calgary, AB. Francis was born in Inverness on April 29, 1953 and he was the youngest son of the late Donald and Mary (MacDonald) Campbell. He is predeceased by his sister, Jeanette "Nettie" and survived by his sister, Whilomena; brothers, Malcolm (Christina), Bryden (Patsy) and Alexander (Mary). He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews. An always welcoming spirit, Francis continually showed great hospitality, wit and humor to those he met. He spent 39 years working for Stora/New Page before retiring in 2010. He made many friendships and had many laughs through his years at The Mill. Never one to be content at sitting around, Francis also kept busy looking after cows and his horse, Daisy, on the family farm. Francis will now be at peace as he joins Collena.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Vestry of St. Mary's Church, Mabou. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in St Mary's Church, Mabou with Fr. Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to a charity of choice.
