Born in Inverness on May 8, 1947, to the late Walter and Marion (Phillips) Hinkley.
A devoted homemaker, Geraldine poured her love and care into raising her own family and extended that same love and warmth to many other children that she babysat over the years. “Aunt J” had a special gift for nurturing young hearts and her quiet contributions left a lasting impact on many families in the community.
She enjoyed the simple things in life especially playing cards and games (backgammon) around the table with family and she was especially happy if she won. Although she had the opportunity to travel the world, she instead looked forward to her yearly trips to PEI. She also loved her trips to Inverness to spend time with her sister Juanita. She enjoyed her naps and her quiet time reading and sipping her “Tims” but what gave her the most joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved them more than anything and she centered her life around them all.
Geraldine is survived by her sons, Daniel, (Lexington), Johnny, (Inverness), Angus (Matt), (Stratford, PEI), Robert (Leah), (MackDale); her daughters, Janet (Mike), (Inverness), Lisa, (Port Hawkesbury), and Laurie (Jody), (MackDale); 10 grandchildren, Gracie, Max, Johnathan (Diane), Jordan (Danielle), Tara (Ryan), Ella, Dawson, Dallas, Randy (Tonia) and Kyle; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sadie (Peter), (Dartmouth), Joseph (Marg), (Middle River); Juanita, (Inverness) and Angus Kennedy, (Inverness); father of her children. Although they were separated, they have always shared a special bond throughout the years.
Other than her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters, Shirley and Doreen; and her godson, Walter.
Her children would like to express their sincere thanks to all the nurses and doctors that gave her such wonderful care the last few years. A special thank you to Dr. Paul Pluta who was her family doctor for many years
Her passing has left a hole in our hearts that will never be filled until we meet again.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday October 3rd, 2025 in St Josephs Catholic Church in Port Hawkesbury at 10 am. Donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association of Nova Scotia.
