James "Jim" Edgar Timmons passed away peacefully at home on the morning of November 13th, 2025 at the age of 74. Born in Inverness on September 11, 1951, and later settling in New Glasgow to raise his own family, Jim was a loving and devoted son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather.
He was predeceased by his parents, Molly (Poirier) and Buddy Timmons; his sisters, Marlene Holmes (Paul) and Darlene Campbell (Angus L.); and his first-born daughter, Sherry-Lynn (deceased at birth).
He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Kay); children, Kelly (Craig), Lisa (Matt), D.J. (Alanna) and Kevin; grandchildren, Jack Timmons, Channing Timmons, Kayla Timmons, and Nate Dobbin; siblings, Charlotte Dalton (Ken), Murray Timmons (Bonnie), Edy Hesse (Rick), Sandy Timmons (Cathy) and Wilma Timmons (Gerard); and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Raised by a pillar of the Inverness community, young Jim learned early the importance of hard work, family and helping others. He carried these values throughout his life, spending over 30 years working at the pulp mill in New Glasgow to provide for his family. Despite the long hours, Jim was an ever-present husband, father and grandfather, who could be seen at every game, concert, and event beaming with pride.
Known for his kindness and quiet generosity, Jim made time for everyone. He coached hockey, ran errands for Kay, and cared for everyone’s needs without hesitation or complaint. He loved to spend quiet moments at the beach, walk his dog Henry, and visit with family and friends whenever he had the chance. An avid sports fan, he never missed watching his Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. Jim was a deeply loved and cherished member of the family and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 20th, 2025, from 10-10:45am with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am, both in Stella Maris Church, Inverness.
All are invited to celebrate Jim’s memory at a reception downstairs at the Legion after the funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to Multiple System Atrophy Canada at msacanada.ca.
