It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Joseph Harvey Shaw, husband, big brother, uncle, and friend. Harvey passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
Born in Inverness on March 24,1954 he was a son of the late John R. Shaw and Leona (Kennedy).
Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Linda (Delaney) Lou as he so lovingly called her; siblings, Brenda (Weston) Mackinnon, Johnny (Melody) , Jesslyn (Wilson) Timmons, all of West Lake Ainslie; Jake( Diane), Upper Tantallon, Nicholas, Orleans ,Ontario; in-laws, Joe ( Elaine) Delaney, Kevin (Norma) Delaney,Marlene Delaney, Jeannie (Mark) Delaney Wertheim, and Allison Delaney, who all reside in the Boston area along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins
Besides his parents, Harvey was predeceased by his brother, Donnie; as well as his mother and father in law, Mary and Joseph Delaney.
Harvey lived on Shaw's Mountain until the age of ten before they moved to West Lake Ainslie.
From the tender age of eight he worked at the sawmill, on the mountain, alongside his father and uncle where his first savings were used to buy work boots....and that was where his feet were most comfortable. He left home at a young age to travel and work in Toronto and Boston but eventually moved back home to work as a woodsman, then in the salvage yard, and has been self employed ever since.
Harvey enjoyed old cars and the simple things in life. He stayed close to home and many great friendships were formed with the many visitors to the “Bus”. He enjoyed visiting friends and family in the neighborhood and with his unique sense of humor always left you with a laugh and a smile. We will miss him terribly. May he rest in peace.
Thank-you to Dr. Egar and the cardiac team at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital who worked so hard to keep him with us.
Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Sunday August 6 from 3-7 pm. Funeral Mass to take place in Immaculate Conception Church, West Lake Ainslie on Monday at 11:00 am with Father Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
