March 10, 1945, to February 7, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce that Julia MacDonald passed away on February 7, 2023, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney at the age of 77. Julia was born on March 10, 1945. She was raised in North East Margaree and then made her way to Toronto where she met her soon to be husband Tony at a down east dance there. They got married and had 3 young children in the city, but they longed for life in Cape Breton and soon made their way back and settled in Inverness. Julia began working at the Royal Bank part time at first and eventually full time until she retired. She enjoyed her role at the bank, and it allowed her to get to know and talk to many people in the community. She was an active member in Stella Maris Parish, Inverness and volunteered to help organize the counting and depositing of church collections.
Julia was passionate about the outdoors, spending time on her patio, the beach and tending to her vegetable garden. Family was very special to her. She loved spending quality time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Her siblings were an important part of her life and she enjoyed the many gatherings with them as well as with all her nieces and nephews.
Julia was predeceased by her parents, James and Clara Hannigan of North East Margaree; her sister, Lorine Mac Eachern of Cape George, Antigonish and her brother Robert Hannigan of Inverness. She is survived by her husband, Tony MacDonald; children, Laura (Bruce), Michael (Karen), Lisa (Sandy) & Chelsea (Cody); grandchildren, Matt, Brooklyn, Grace, Mark, Bria and Jenna, and great-grandchildren, Zadrian, Zander and Oakley. She is also survived by her siblings, Bernice, Carolann, Mary, Wayne, Phyllis and Marcella.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15th, from 10 -10:45 a.m. in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Stella Maris Parish, Inverness.
