I will miss Lorenzo he was my foster father and a good man good teacher, he is missed by many people, I will never forget him.

Lorenzo was a wonderful man ... highly intelligent, beautifully humble, and so incredibly friendly with EVERY SINGLE PERSON who came his way.  He had this amazing ability to truly go with the flow, speak up when necessary, and live in the moment.  Yeah ... his ability to live in the moment and keep things light totally impressed me.  Still does!  I'm so grateful to have worked with him at Jaanimmarik for a few years.  

Correne, Oran, Piran, Jaico, Mary, Maryann, and Nalli, my heart goes out to you all as you grieve this huge loss in your lives.  May his wonderful self continue shining in all of you!

Oh Coreene, I was so sad to hear about Lorenzo passing. It is quite unbelievable. He was the kindest person and to me, you were a perfect family. You and the kids are in my thoughts. Lorenzo was everywhere in Kuujjuaq, always working, always helping and alway smiling. I am sure you will receive back all the love and kindness that you and Lorenzo gave to so much people through all those years.

I am very sad to hear about your loss.  Gerald was an amazing friend and I was truly lucky to have him come into my life.



Every morning at Jaanimmarik School, I joined Lorenzo and his Newfie buddies for coffee. I was welcomed even though I was a  Bluenoser. It was my favorite part of the day, and the most important reason was because Lorenzo had a way of making even the most difficult times seem okay. He had a gift for joy. Somehow, you couldn't take yourself too seriously around him. At home with Coreene and all the kids, he was the same Lorenzo -- the two of them together making a happy home. I will miss him. 

I see you everywhere.  I hear your voice telling me everything will be okay  and not to worry.  So many memories of you, good and bad.  I will
try my best to keep those memories alive.  You will live on in your children and your niece and nephew.  The world was a better place with you in it.  It is not good bye, it is until I see you again.  Love you Bro.

To Gerald’s family … I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you, praying for you, and grieving with you. 

Gerald’s life was a blessing, his memory a treasure. He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. I will miss his big smile, bear hugs and jovial demeanor. Rest in peace my friend.  

To one of my favourite families I have ever had the pleasure of meeting:
Nothing I can say will take away the huge sandal-filled hole that Lorenzo left on this world, but please know that I am thinking of you constantly.
 Lorenzo was my first mentor, and often my “chill pill” at work. He always reminded me of what’s really important in school and in life, and it’s sure as heck not that perfect lesson plan. 
Every single student loved Lorenzo, and I have yet to meet another teacher who had the attention and love of so many so quickly. Lorenzo always sent me family updates after the Dredges left Kuujjuaq; he supported me, and pushed for me to become a leader in the school. I only hope I can become 1/4 of the role model he will always be to many, many people. I will forever hear his morning greeting in my head of “how are YOU to-day?” 
Sending all of my love and strength to you Correne and to the kids tomorrow, and for the weeks, months, and years to come.

It is with broken hearts that we express our sincerely deepest sorrow at the loss of your precious husband and father. Lorenzo was one of the first people I met when I arrived in Kuujjuaq in 2008. He immediately put me at ease with his relaxed, helpful, generous manner and his great sense of humour. Through all the years having him as my colleague, he was the same, always ready to lend an ear, share his knowledge and experience. 
This is a huge loss for all his former students and colleagues. I want to express my deepest condolences to Corrine and family.

To Lorenzo’s family, I had the opportunity to work with Lorenzo a few times in the past year in our Acadia program. He was so kind and  he always had such genuine warmth. Although our paths only crossed very briefly, I am so shocked and saddened to read the news of his passing. He was someone that I really liked and I was happy to have a budding new friendship with him. While  grateful for the time we shared, I’m sending my deepest condolences to his wife, children, friends, students , colleagues and loved ones. He always spoke about his family with so much love and was such a proud “father of 6!”.  Rest easy, and thanks for the smiles. 

I really liked Lorenzo.   He was the teacher who helped me out with the sound systems in Jaanimarik for many years, installing then, moving them, troubleshooting, etc.   He could do it all.  And he was a father to Jaico and Mary who were followed by me for their hearing problems.  He had a Master's degree in Deaf education.  He was a 
treasure.  A great loss.  My deepest condolances.  Hannah

We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our friend Lorenzo. Please accept our sincerest condolences.

Words almost seem meaningless at a time like this but it is heartwarming to read through the memories friends and family have posted. I think those words are a true testament to the positive impact Lorenzo has had on all of our lives.  That is the measure of a good person not the material things a person may have accumulated.

Lorenzo; and the whole Dredge Family - except the cat, came into our lives nearly 4 years ago at the Bras d'Or Archers archery club. Who knew the impact Lorenzo and family would have on our little club? They soon became an integral part of our club and were a breath of fresh air. Lorenzo was always positive and smiling - and we would trash talk a bit - all in good fun. We all became quick friends.

First impressions - I told my wife after the first day - best behaved kids I have ever met. They said "Thank-you, Excuse me, You are welcome, etc." - something unheard of in this day and age. Another insight into the great upbringing and influence on young kids that Lorenzo and Correne provided.

It was pretty obvious that Lorenzo's love for Correne and his children was paramount.  His only flaw - rather large; that I could see, was that he was a Habs fan. We all have our crosses to bear. Mine being that I am a Leafs fan. 

Terry thought Lorenzo had the best smile ever, it was huge, lighting up any room he was in.  We will miss that big grin.
We are going to miss him something terrible as will all who had the privilege of meeting him. RIP our friend Lorenzo.

Dear Correne, Bev, and family,  I am deeply saddened to learn of Gerald's passing.  I have many fond memories of Gerald from when he lived in Burton's Pond at MUN.  Some of the fondest are singing songs on the bus on our way to boat tours in Bay Bull's.  Mostly country and Irish songs. A couple of favorites being "The Gambler" and "Peter's Street".   At least those were the one's to which we knew all the words.  Was fortunate to spend more time with Gerald again in Ottawa where he would sometimes visit. Like many Newfoundlanders who move away, there are moments of homesickness.  Gerald always brought a little bit of "home", both literally in his Easter dinner contribution of turkey dressing that was green with Newfoundland savory,  to figuratively, with his humor, infectious smile, and genuine concern for others.   In addition to knowing each other from MUN, Gerald and I were from the same little stretch of communities on the Great Northern Peninsula.  Although we did not know each other well before our time at Burton's pond, we both shared a  pride in our roots.  Corenne and Gerald were just starting their family with little Oran back then, but already it was clear what an amazing husband and father he would be.  My heart goes out to you all. I hope you can find some comfort in the memories shared by the many people who were touched by him.   Monica

Lorenzo was my teacher in grade 7 back in 2013, he had a loud voice so it kept everyone awake and hyped up to work :) he was a good friend of mine, also a funny story, I was out of town and I think my puppy kept going where Lorenzo lived because he also had a dog of his own,  and so Lorenzo went to my mom and ask to buy the puppy, I got back home to Lorenzo owning my puppy his name was tiger into Molly hehe, I always use to make jokes “let me buy the dog back double the charge!”. So very saddened to hear about Gerald. I have fond memories of him as a young boy in Black Duck Cove and as a student. Gerald was always so charming and such a fine young man in every respect. I met Lorenzo at Jaanimmarik School in 2013. Equipped with his flip-flops or sandals, pencil perched on his right ear, and coffee in hand (or a pot close by), his easy going, “go with the flow” attitude taught me a lot about life, and how his teaching style truly suited our kids.  He cared deeply about his students and the community.  He was always cheerful, and I was grateful for rides in “the bat mobile” as we both were living in Uptown.  His daily greeting of, “Good morning sunshine!”, always made me feel special!  His commitment to inspiring kids and living life in a cheerful, positive way, is what Lorenzo taught me. The world is a better place because of him.  Rest assured his legacy will live on.  I send you all my thoughts and prayers.  RIP Lorenzo.


Correne and family, my deepest sympathies and condolences. Lorenzo was a wonderful friend who I had the pleasure of knowing for the last few years through the archery club.  I don't ever remember seeing Lorenzo without a friendly smile.  He was a pleasure to be around and we'll miss him deeply.  Allison always said that Lorenzo and I were twins at the club because we thought and said the same things, mostly about the kids at the club.  We will all miss his camaraderie and friendship. So sorry for your loss.

I am very sad to learn of Lorenzo's passing.   This man was a remarkable person by his optimism and his humor and above all very pleasant human being around. Dear family, it is with a heavy heart that I express my deepest condolences. I met Lorenzo and his family in Kuujjuaq. All members of the family always smiling and you could feel the love and positivity. Although taken way too soon, Lorenzo’s spirit and way of life will live on through his family and those he touched!

We first met in Rothermere House in fall 1990.  We got to be roommates by chance. He had a magnetic personality and everyone was drawn to him. He studied hard and socialized just as hard. We had friends stay with us , using a meal cards to bring food back to the room. This is where I met his sister in person. I think the most memorable moment is when he took me to meet his aunt Jose in the hospital,  I got to meet his mom as well. They made me feel like family, and we were and always will be. He was proud of his family and his roots. 
Love you Gerald always and forever. 
You will never be gone.

I remember Lorenzo when I was working with the Kativik Board and living in Kuujjuaq.  He always had a great smile, and he loved his students!  My sincere condolences to his wife, children, and family.  God bless.

Lorenzo was always good for a laugh and an easy approach to problems that seemed difficult. He was an incredible resource to the school board and personally supported my step daughter in immeasurable ways as she finished school in Kuujjuaq. I’ll remember always seeing him with a smile and a pencil behind his ear. My thoughts are with his family and the community of Kuujjuaq. 

Gerald was one of our core crowd back when I was first starting university  back in the early 90s.  It's been many years since then but I still remember how caring and funny and laid back he was.  I will always remember his smile, it had its own wattage I am sure! I am so very sorry for everyone's loss, it is a great one, and I know he will be very deeply missed.  It is a true sign of just how good of a person he was that I still remember him clearly to this day, and it has been 30 years.  Rest in Peace Gerald. Xxoo

I knew Lorenzo as a colleague and friend in Kuujjuaq beginning in 2009.  Lorenzo was fun, caring, casual, inspiring, smart and a great teacher and friend.  I am privileged to have known him, and have many fond memories of teaching with him at Jaanimmarik.

Gerald was my cousin. His mom being sister to my father. He just recently went to visit with them. And there was a picture taken of him and his family with my Dad (Edward Watts). 
In this picture, he had the same ol' goofy smile, and the playful look in his eye. Something I will never forget.  His passing shocked us all. Devastating to say the least. 
My fondest and most vivid memory of Gerald, was from when we were younger. He was up visiting from Black Duck Cove with his Mom (Yvonne Dredge) and sister (Bev Cole). My oldest brother (Justin Watts) and Gerald always goofed around when they were together. This time, they were horsing around and he was running through the house and just like that he ran through the screen of the patio door.  It was hilarious. And still makes me smile thinking of it. It was just like watching a comedy show. Which it often was when Gerald was around. I will never forget the 1st words out of his mouth after he caught his balance, "Aunt Linda!". 
I can still hear his voice, plain as day.
And I will never forget it.
Gone way to soon. He is so loved. And will be forever in our hearts and forever missed.

As we watched his beautiful family grow we were so fortunate to be part of all your lives. I was fortunate to spend almost every day of almost 2 and a half years with Lorenzo as a colleague. We would throw on the coffee in our room in the morning and by the end of the day we'd have gone through three pots. Not because we were highly caffeinated, but because of the amount of staff and students that would come in to have a coffee and share a conversation with Lorenzo. People gravitated to him, and I had the privilege to watch and learn. His love for his family, especially Correne came through in how he talked about them.
I feel so lucky to call him a friend and it hurts so much knowing he isn't there to connect with anymore.

Sincere condolences Correne and family. I had the pleasure of  knowing Lorenzo as a colleague at Jaanimmarik from 2010-2014. He left a lasting impression and was so loved by students and staff alike.
