December 27th, 1959 - February 20th, 2023
It’s with warm memories and heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Lynn MacIsaac. A fierce, bright light until the end, she passed away at home in Inverness on February 20th with her family by her side.
Born in Inverness, Cape Breton on December 27th, 1959, she was a daughter of Benjamina and Joseph (Junior) MacIsaac. Besides her parents, she is also survived by her daughter, Meriha Beaton and partner, Tim Tobin, (Sydney, Australia); sister, Judi (Bryan) Sutherland (Inverness); brothers, Joseph MacIsaac and partner, Carolyn Williston (Ontario), Bruce MacIsaac (Vancouver) and Lennan MacIsaac and partner, Crystal Campbell (Inverness); niece, Kristen Sutherland and husband, Derick MacAdam (Inverness); nephew, Keenan Sutherland and partner Lyne Allain (Bridgewater); step-son, Joel Phillips and partner, Lauren Sundstrom (Vancouver), step-daughter, Emilie Phillips and husband, Josh Lamb (Kelowna).
She is predeceased by her great love and long-time partner, Corbett Phillips. They met in 2007 and enjoyed thirteen years of adventure together. Never taking time for granted, they conquered their bucket list one epic trip at a time. Their travels took them to the top of Machu Picchu, traipsing throughout the Costa Rican jungle, and on a month-long boat trip – on their cherished boat The Bluebottle – from Vancouver to Alaska. They are now reunited and undoubtedly planning their next wild journey together.
Lynn’s first love was her 40-year career in respiratory therapy. She was a passionate leader and mentor in the industry, always advocating for best practice and happiest when taking care of others. She started out professionally in Nova Scotia, before eventually moving to Vancouver, where she dedicated her time working in the neonatal unit at the BC Children’s Hospital. Throughout her illustrious career, she taught respiratory therapy to students at Thompson River University and was a long-standing director of the BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
Her role with the BCSRT took her all over the world, including trips to Peru and China where she provided and taught respiratory care to hospitals in-need. She was an unparalleled force in the industry and her colleagues all believe that the respiratory profession would not be where it is without her.
A benevolent soul with a cheeky spirit, she will be with us wherever we go. Whenever we help someone in need, speak up for what we believe in or pour a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc, we will do so with that special Lynn flair.
We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Dr. Ritter and the Palliative Care team. We also want to thank Lynn’s nurse and friend, Mary Anderson, and her neighbour and home care worker Tish Gillis who made her so happy and comfortable in her final weeks.
Visitation will take place in Inverness Funeral Home on Monday, February 27th from 3-6pm. Funeral Mass will take place the following day on Tuesday, February 28th from 11am - 12pm in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Danny MacLennan and Deacon Dr. Duncan McMaster. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or the BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
