With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Ellison who left this world peacefully and surrounded by love on June 20, 2026. She was 94 years old. Mary was a woman of quiet strength, deep kindness, and a sense of humor that touched many lives.
Born in Inverness, Cape Breton on September 7,1931 to Jim Angus MacIsaac and Margaret MacNeil. Mary was a longtime resident of Inverness. She was a member of Stella Maris Parish Inverness. Known for her great sense of humor and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need, she formed many cherished friendships during her years in Inverness and these connections remained meaningful throughout her life. During her brief illness, it became abundantly clear how many lives she had touched.
As a mother of three (Mary Alice Ellison predeceased at birth) she created a home filled with warmth and security for her two children Jamie and Marilyn. Her stories, warmth, and sense of humor created memories her family will carry forever.
Mary embraced life and was predeceased by her brother, Francis MacIsaac; and sisters, Camilla Tompkins, Josie Doucet, Rosalia Beaton, Muriel MacDonald, and Regina MacIsaac.
She is survived by her sister, Rita Gillis; and her brother, James (Chris) MacIsaac; her children, Jamie (Dianne) and Marilyn (Gerry).
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life lived with purpose. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will continue in the laughter she shared, the traditions she passed down, and the many lives she enriched.
Thank you to the staff of the Inverary Manor and Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
