Born on June 15th, 1945, mom was a daughter of the late John and Eleanor (Morrisey) Gillis. She spent much of her early years raising her children on the Shore Road in Judique. Her home was always open to our friends, and she welcomed them with open arms, treating them as though they were her own. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished every opportunity to celebrate their special milestones. She was always the first to call, never missing a birthday and receiving a card from her was always guaranteed. She was also an incredible cook and baker, famous for her apple pies, rolls, and lasagna.
Mom was the proud mother of Kevin (Linda), Jennifer, Shelley (Merv), and Hughie (Rachelle)
She was especially proud of her grandchildren, Alex (Colleen), Katelyn (Arran), Adam, Rowyn, Connor, Emma, Jessica, Molly, and Ian, as well as her three beautiful great-grandchildren, Theo, Jack, and Sam.
Mom is survived by her siblings, Knowell, Fraser (Anne), Joan (late Joe), Shirley (John Willie), Kitty (David), Carson, Billy (Margie), and Cathy. She was predeceased by siblings Bernie, Francis, Clifford, Hughene, Gladys, Kenny and Joseph.
Mom spent her final years at the manor in Inverness, where she was treated with exceptional care and respect. Being back on Cape Breton Island, where her heart truly belonged, brought her great joy. She was always happy to have visitors, share a laugh, and spend time with the people she loved.
Mom was a fighter to the very end. She showed all of us incredible inner strength, courage and a desire for life.
