Born in Inverness on April 7th, 1928 and she was a daughter of the late Archie A. and Jessie Elizabeth (MacKinnon) MacIsaac.
Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mary was known to many as a devoted woman of God and to the blessed Virgin Mary, a nurturer, a care-taker, an advice giver but above all she was a wife, a mother, and a nanny. Mary joined the convent in her early years serving her God faithfully. Due to health reasons and a calling beyond herself she left the convent to return to her home in Inverness Banks with her parents where she then became a practicing nurse working under Dr. Jim MacLean. Her care for the elderly, and small babies and children were some of her most cherished memories.
She met her husband Peter, who she was married to for 49 years and had 3 children, Gerard, Archie, Mary Elizabeth (Charles). Mary was a mother to all who entered her home, providing love and care and a blessing or prayer upon you whether you knew it or not. You often found yourself praying alongside Mary or were a recipient of her prayers. They were the healing kind. Mary prayed the rosary daily sometimes more-for all of her family, friends or for anyone who needed prayers. There wasn’t a fiber of her being that didn’t whole heartedly believe the power of prayer and faith in God. You could find Mary in most recent years in her home in Port Hood often on the telephone, having a wee cup of piping hot tea and visiting with her closest friends, Florence McDaniel, Sadie Murphy & Rebecca MacDonald. While Mary (Aunt Mae) had many special family members in her life, a special mention to her niece & god-daughter Sadie must be made, she was always there to check in, have tea or pray with Mary, her kindness will always be remembered. Her 3 children, her pride and joy, Gerard, her ever loving caretaker, meal provider, and ultimate comfort provider, Archie, her story-teller, comedian, son with a heart of gold, Elizabeth, her nurse, her protecter, her fierce advocate and her beloved daughter. Not a day went by that she didn’t ask how everyone was or didn’t have them on her mind. They were her greatest joy and largest blessing in life.
Mary also known to 5 grandchildren, Devin, Vanessa, Marsha, Derek and Peter Francis, 9 great-grandchildren as Nanny, has left a legacy of faith and memories never to be forgotten. The joy and love to see and hear all those faces made her the most proud and profoundly blessed. She loved us all so dearly. Not a day will go by that we won’t think of her in some capacity as we know she will send us signs she is close. Though our hearts are broken here on earth we know she is where she longed to one day be. With her loving husband, Mama and Papa, her siblings and her God, the almighty father. We love you mom. We love you nanny. Now and forever. Amen.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the home care and palliative care nurses who were wonderful to mom. Also, to Dr. Lok for his care over many years.
Visitation will take place in Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Wednesday January 18th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Peter's Church, Port Hood on Thursday January 19th at 11:00 am with Father Sunny and Father Eugene officiating, Burial to be held at a later date.
