The death of Matthew Ferguson occurred on May 18th, 2026, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Inverness on February 2, 1944, to the late John and Mina Ferguson. After attending NSIT he worked his whole life as an electrician with IBEW. In June 1970 he married Mildred MacLean of Dunvegan. He was a proud father of John (Meredith), Lisa (Trevor) Alford, David and Carrie (Chris Baker) also survived by grandchildren Matthew and Chloe Ferguson, Brenna and Brett Alford, Finley, Madden, and Blake Baker. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his stepfather, Angus Gillis, sister Janice and Brother Wesley. Matthew was a proud member of Stella Maris Church, Inverness and an active member of the community.
Visitation will take place in Inverness Funeral Home on Thursday May 21st, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and the Funeral Mass will be held in Stella Maris Church, Inverness, on May 22, 2026, at 11:00 am with burial will be in Whale Cove Cemetery, Whale Cove, Margaree Harbour.

The family would like to thank all of the remarkable staff of ICMH for their compassion and care over the last several months. A special acknowledgement of Dr. Susie Egar who always went above and beyond with guidance as Matties journey came to a close.
