With sadness we wish to announce the passing of Rita (Pirotte) Mac Isaac of Inverness, on March 14, 2018 at the age of 87.
Rita was born April 26, 1930 in Reserve Mines. She was the youngest daughter of the late Frank and Annie (MacNeil) Pirotte. She attended Glace Bay General and graduated as the valedictorian in 1951. After graduation, she accepted a nursing position at Inverness Memorial hospital, where she met the love of her life, the late Francis X. Mac Isaac.
She finished her 36 year career at Inverness Consolidate Memorial Hospital as a Head Nurse and then moved to New Glasgow to become the Administrator of Sunset Haven for a number of years.
Rita thoroughly enjoyed her family, her friends, and her profession as a Registered Nurse. She spent many years working as a volunteer for the Inverness Pipe Band, and was a big supporter of all Inverness community initiatives. She also became a long-time winter resident of Sarasota, Fla., where she spent her time volunteering in her park events, playing golf and following her beloved Blue Jays.
Always the adventurer, she travelled to Europe with her sister, without a plan or hotel reservations. On arrival in Belgium, she successfully located her unknown Belgium Pirotte family, by scanning the telephone book and calling individuals until a contact was made. This first meeting provided a great reunion for both families, and resulted in some wonderful lasting relationships.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was predeceased, by her oldest daughter, Anne (Mac Isaac) Cummings; her sister and best friend, Jeannette Mac Eachern, and her sons, (Don) partner Cathy Thomas.
She will be remembered lovingly by her daughters, Janice (Basil) Rose, Louise (Barry) MacLean, Isobel (Mike) Snowdon, her sons, Frank (Debbie) Mac Isaac, Don Mac Isaac; her son-in-law, Lew Cummings and former daughter-in-law, Patsy (Ross) Mac Isaac; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Many Grammie kisses, were shared with her beloved grandchildren, Heather Surrette, Susan and Joanne Cummings, Moriah and Tanner Rose, Liam and Callum MacIsaac, Emma and Grace Snowdon, her great grandchildren Connor and Riley Allen; as well as her step grandchildren Lee and Jason MacLean, and her great step grandchildren, Alex, Jacob, Ella and Mallory Maclean. Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Monday, March 19th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and services in Saint Matthews Church on Tuesday, March 20th,at 11a.m., Pastor Maggie Plant celebrating.
