He was born on February 16, 1957 to Mary Anne and the late Donald H. Beaton of Mabou Coal Mines.
After a courageous battle with serious health issues, he passed away peacefully in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, with his wife, Darlene, by his side.
Gerard (Ronnie) always enjoyed many a long walk and never passed up an opportunity to stop to tell a joke and have a conversation with friends he met along the way. He loved his music and enjoyed dancing at the legion with Darlene. He was Darlene's good luck charm when she played TV Bingo! Gerard had been a devote member of St. Mary's Parish, Mabou and continued at Stella Maris, Inverness.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 15 years, Darlene (Deagle) Beaton and his mother, Mary Anne Beaton; also survived by siblings, Sarah (Richard) MacDonald, Judique; Donald (Cathy) Beaton, Northeast Mabou; Ann (Brian) Eisener, Dartmouth; John Beaton, Lake Echo; Finlay (Brenda) Beaton, Edmonton; Linda (David) LeBlanc, Cole Harbour; Diane (Al) MacDonald, Cole Harbour; Wayne (Beverly) Beaton, Port Hood; Leslie (Susan) Beaton, Maccan; Karen Beaton-Tonet (Doug), Porters Lake; Sandy (Cathy) Beaton, Mabou Coal Mines; Michael Beaton, Ontario; Bernie (Bernadette) Beaton, Mabou Coal Mines; Marilyn Beaton, Dartmouth; sister-in-laws, June (Larry) Lapointe, Inverness; Rosie (Michael) Deagle, Inverness; Audrey (Ambrose) Deagle, Inverness; brother-in-laws, Angus Deagle, Inverness; Joseph Deagle, Inverness. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, aunts and uncles.
Gerard was predeceased by his father, Donald H. Beaton and brothers, Hughie John and Francis Beaton.
In keeping with Gerard's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Sunday, April 3rd from 4-7 p.m. and again on Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Mabou. Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to a charity of your choice.
