

Shaw, Walter Gerard, Age 89 of Margaree Valley, passed away on Sunday September 1, 2013, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born in Margaree on April 8, 1924, Walter was a son of the late William and Myrtle (Smith) Shaw. Walter was a member of the Cheticamp Legion Branch no. 32, was a veteran of WWII, and served overseas from 1944 -1946, and wounded in Germany in 1945. He was last employed with Fishers and Oceans, and retired at the age of 65. Walter is survived by his wife, Irene (Morrison), of 72 years this October; children, James (Pat), Margaree Valley; Myrtle, New Glasgow; Curtis, Margaree Valley; and Susan, New Glasgow. Walter is also survived by eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Burchell, Lower Sackville; brothers, Jack (Isabel), Hamilton Ont.; Jim (Betty Lou), Stoney Creek, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother, Charlie, and sisters, Ernestine and Gloria. Visitation will be held in Margaree Valley Baptist Church on Monday September 2, 2013, from 6-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 3, at 1 p.m. in Margaree Valley Baptist Church, Margaree Valley, with Pastor Hugh Morrison celebrating; burial to follow in Margaree Valley Baptist Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Memorial donations may be made to Margaree Valley Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
