Obituary (Pete Marcott)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of “Pete” Willis Bernard Marcott, age 76, of Port Hood on December 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at the VG Site, QE11. He was the son of the late Nora (Keddy) and Henry Marcott of Stellarton. He was born in Stellarton and moved to Canso where he met the love of his life, Mamie. He did on the job training to pursue his career as a fisheries officer in Canso. In 1973, he moved his family to Port Hood, where he continued his career with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, retiring 35 years later. Following retirement from fisheries, he spent another 15 years fishing with Melvin on the New Moon. He played hockey, coached and followed his children and grandchildren on their athletic endeavours. He loved camping, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and spending quality time with his family and friends. Would always be the first to lend a helping hand, for anyone in need. He was never short of words and enjoyed telling a good story. Always on the go, whether it was a trip to the rink, drive down to the pond to check the boats, a visit at the ceilidh or a backroad tour. He was a loving and devoted husband to his “Daisy” Mamie Avery for 54 wonderful years. He was an incredible father to his sons Pete (Lucille), Port Hood; Paul, Port Hood, and daughter Sonya, Halifax. He is survived by his younger sister, Maureen Lamey “Cookie”, Springville. He was a caring and supportive grandfather to his eight grandchildren, Kristen (Robyne), Kiley (Paige), Keegan, Katie, Baillie, Cole, Jackson and Matthew and four great-grandchildren Kaleb, Everly, Rory, his newest addition Cohen Pete Marcott and his many cousins, nieces and nephew. A special thank you to his brother-in-law Victor and his wife, Senie for all their comfort and support. He will be missed by dear friend Joe Anthony and also be greatly missed by his dog Happy, of 12 years. Special thanks to Dr. Lok for his many years of medical care he provided to Pete, along with Dr. La France, the nursing team at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital and the ICU medical staff at the VG Site for all their care and compassion. Visitation will be held on Saturday December 29th in Port Hood & Area Resting Place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood with Fr. On behalf of Tom Kiely's family we wish our deepest sympathy on Pete's passing. Pete was a great friend to Tom, mom and our entire family and my dad thought a lot of him. He was colourful, made my dad smile and he cherished their time together. He was a very courageous man and his love of his family which must have gave him the strength through his battle!

We wish all around him our condolences, strength and joy in your memories of such a great husband, father, grandfather and friend!

Mamie, Pete, Lucille, and family: please accept my deepest condolences on Pete Sr having passed. I remember him as such a strapping man, with a generous smile. Years ago my mum, my cousin Alexis, and I were on a snowmobile rally. We had two machines, one big enough for two to ride double, and another tiny one. At some point my mum offered to take the small machine. She set off, gunned it, and went straight across the road into a ditch sideways and fell off in the deep snow. We realised immediately she wasnt hurt and of course fell down laughing. Pete walked over, picked up the machine with one hand and my mother with the other, it seems, put them back together, and the rally went on. We often laugh about the event......I hope he and Innis are sharing a chuckle. My thoughts are with you during this time. Leslie
