Freda Elaine Scott Brooks was born on March 11, 1934, in Jack County, TX, to Webster Burton (W.B.) Scott and Linnie Irene Reynolds Scott. She was the oldest of three children and raised in Post Oak, TX. She attended Midway School and graduated in 1952. On May 2, 1953, Freda married Jerry Mack Brooks in Jacksboro, TX. They had two children – Dale Lynn and Gail Sue. Freda went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
Freda started as a beautician and also worked at Shamburger Lumber Company where most of the family worked from time to time as Jerry worked in management there for his career. However, Freda spent the majority of her time as a homemaker, where she took care of her children, and even her grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren at times when they stayed with her. She loved having grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren visit her. She is known as one of the most giving people her family knows.
Freda was a devout Christian and member of various churches as they moved from time to time, but she was always a faithful member somewhere. She also enjoyed following and giving to various other ministries.
Freda is preceded in death by her parents, Burton and Linnie Scott, her husband, Jerry Brooks, and her brother, Arneal Scott.
She is survived by her sister, Marlene Wilton, of Palestine, TX; sister-in-law Colleen Scott of Athens, GA; children Dale & wife Karen Brooks of Graham, TX, and Sue & husband Frank Plyler of Ft. Worth, TX; two grandchildren, Scott & wife Harmoni Brooks of Sunset, TX, and Shane Brooks of Graham, TX; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandsons.
The family will have a brief gathering of prayer at 10am on June 21st, 2023 at Highland Cemetery.
