A memorial service for Marc will be held Friday, June 13, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Dutton Funeral Home, 300 E Cash St, Iowa Park, Texas 76367.
Marc graduated from Lakewood High School in Ohio in 1967 and later earned his degree in Criminal Justice from Midwestern State University in 1979. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1974, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and was later stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, where he served as a medic and medical instructor.
Marc dedicated himself to a life of public service. He worked for Gold Cross Ambulance Service, served as a sheriff’s deputy in Wichita County, a police officer for the city of Iowa Park, and later as an insurance adjuster. Marc successfully ran for office as the Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, a position he held for 20 years, 5 full terms, from from 1999 to 2019. Marc implemented many reforms at the county level that he was immensely proud of. He was also a past president of the Texas Justice of the Peace Association.
Marc married Janice Harris on October 10, 1980, in Iowa Park, Texas. They have 3 children, Jennifer, Wes, and Alex, their spouses, as well as 5 grandchildren.
Marc was a member of the Noon Lions Club and was passionate about community involvement. He coached youth soccer, sharing that experience with his son and youngest daughter. He enjoyed skeet shooting, reading, lively conversations, and especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren—cheering from the sidelines, telling stories, and sharing laughs.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Newman; two sisters, Michelle Kollmann and Valerie (Dutch) Mahaffey, and brother-in-law Thomas (Julie) Harris. Survivors also include his children, Jennifer (Jason) Reese, Wesley (Kelsie), Newman, and Alexandra (Derek) Sanchez. He loved every minute with his 5 grandchildren: Justin, Logan, and Allison Reese, David Sanchez, and Grayson Newman, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Marc will be remembered for his wit, wisdom, deep love for his family, and his resolute dedication to helping others.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to hospice care providers, friends, and family who provided love and support during Marc’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Marc wants to leave you with: "No definition of freedom is complete without the freedom to take the consequences. Indeed, it is the freedom upon which all the others are based." H. Vetinari, Patrician of Ankh-Morpork
