Mary Ellen Geryk Painter

Graveside Service will be held on 11 am Monday, August 10, 2015, in Roberts Cemetery, Troy, Texas, with grandsons, Mr. John Holman of Iowa Park and Mr. F.A. Looney of Denton, Texas, officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home of Iowa Park, Texas. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. on Sunday, August 9, 2015, in the Reception Room at Dutton Funeral Home.

Mary was born January 3, 1924 in Port Lavaca, Calhoun County, Texas, to Frank Joe and Mary Vojufka Geryk, Jr. She married Willie L. Painter on February 14, 1942 in Bell County, Texas, and was a homemaker. She moved to Childress 13 years ago from New Waverly, Texas, to be near family, and was a resident of Cottage Village, an assisted living facility. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Childress and Eastern Star, serving as a past Worthy Matron. Mary was an avid reader and expected and received great accomplishments from her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters, Betty Holman and husband, Robert of Childress, Texas, and Patricia McCain of Missouri City, Texas; stepson, Lenard Eugene Painter and wife Kaye of Dale, Texas; a brother, August Geryk of Kingsville, Texas; sister-in-law, Nancy Geryk; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willie in 2002, a daughter, Sharon in 1968 and 6 siblings, Frank Geryk, Frankie Geryk, Jack Geryk, Anna Belle Geryk, Jimmy Geryk and Ruby Geryk.
