

Mick was born December 24, 1935, in Iowa Park, Texas, to Eunice Davis Sewell and James Alfred Sewell. He was an Eagle Scout, played coronet in the school band, excelled at tennis, basketball, and football. He graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1954 where he was President of his senior class.
Mick was an honors graduate of North Texas State University in Denton where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. His interest in writing led him to Stanford University where he studied creative writing before graduating in 1974 from Iowa with a PHD in English. He served in the US Army Reserves before becoming a dedicated college Professor.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Patrick Sewell, nephews Gunnar Sewell and Dan Sewell, and Brother-in-law David Minter. He is survived by his sister, Caroline Minter, his brother, David Sewell, Nephews Bret Sewell, Dave Sewell and Chris Minter, nieces Thea Sewell and Frances Epstein, his sisters-in-law, Judy Sewell and Mary Sewell, and many grand nieces and nephews.
A devoted son, a beloved Professor, a sensitive and thoughtful man, Mick was considered by friends and family to be “a gentle giant”. He will be missed.
An inurnment and prayer will be held on February 9, 2022 at 11 AM, at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park, TX.
