

Rowena Bacon Kalenak Miller Rice, 94, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Bill Lockwood, Iowa Park Church of Christ, officiating. Graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM.
Rowena was born August 13, 1921 in Kawkawlin, Michigan to John and Rowena (Schmidt) Bacon. She was a WWII veteran of the US Army, one of the oldest surviving WAC’s. She overcame many illnesses in her lifetime and survived to author a book at the age of 92, telling the stories of her lifetime. Rowena loved animals, raising Emu for several years in Iowa Park. She was a very loving, forgiving, Christian woman who had a tremendous love for people.
Rowena is preceded in death by her husbands, Andy Kalenak, Paul Earl Miller, and Gene Rice; an infant daughter; and two sons, Dewey Miller, Sr. and Kenneth “Stub” Kalenak.
Surviving relatives include her son, John Kalenak and his wife, MaryAnne of Louisville, Kentucky; Gene Paul Miller and his wife, Lalang of Burkburnett, Texas; and Raymond Miller and his wife, Erin Rutherford of Lakeside City, Texas; daughter-in-law, Debbie Kalenak of Parrish, Florida; two brothers, Ralph Bacon of Nutting Lake, Massachusetts and John Bacon of Auburn, Michigan; one sister, Ann Machelski and her husband, Archie of Auburn, Michigan; grandchildren, Kevin Kalenak, Kirstin and David Stroscheim, Kara Kalenak, Kendra Kalenak, Kent Kalenak, Jennifer Kier and Mike Roth, Rebecca Kalenak, Aleksandra Kalenak, Dewey and Susie Miller, Anthony John Miller and Arron Miller; great grandchildren, Courtney, Mena, Cullen, Hanah, Gavin, Johnathan, Jorja, Andrew, Katelyn, Devonte, Jordan, and Hugo; stepchildren, Nadine, Paul, and Joyce; numerous nieces and nephews, and her loving dog, Dixie and new guardian, Greg Machelski.
