COLUMBIA - Barbara LeMare Loux, 87, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 10, 2019. Born September 29, 1931 in South Orange, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Pancoast LeMare.
She graduated from Kent Place School in Summit, NJ; attended her first two years of college at Mary Baldwin then transferred to University of Texas and graduated in 1953.
Barbara took pride in all of her occupations: She had many adventures as a stewardess with Braniff Airways in the 1950s. She found her next passion in teaching; beginning as a preschool teacher at Country Day School, New Jersey.
After moving to Charleston, S.C. she continued teaching with her cherished students at the original Charleston Day School and then First Baptist School. She was the main receptionist at Channel 5 in the 1970s; enjoyed working as a real estate agent for several years and finished her working years as an assistant with a small Charleston law firm. For three decades, she especially enjoyed working as a Poll Manager in Charleston and Columbia.
Barbara was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Charleston, where she was proud to serve as a Lay Reader and on the Flower Guild. Her faith in God kept her sustained throughout her life.
She enjoyed her memberships with The Junior League of Charleston, The Garden Club of Charleston, Daughters of The American Revolution - Rebecca Motte Chapter, and South Carolina Society Colonial Dames.
She was an avid reader; enjoyed gardening, walking and being with nature. Her love of dogs was a life-long comfort. Barbara always had many close longtime friends and took pride in keeping in touch with them through her heartfelt sentiments in her hand written cards and phone calls.
She was happiest spending time with her family. She brought a special warmth and love of life to all who knew and loved her. Our happy memories of her will forever bring smiles and comfort to our hearts.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Lise Maria Budd (Stan) of Irmo; granddaughter, Hannah Budd; nephew, Frank (PJ) Peake (Julie) and their four children Ashley, Lauren, Daniel and Grant of Chandler AZ; her very special Aunt Louise; and several beloved cousins.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Peake; brother-in-law, Frank N Peake; and her beloved fur baby, Smokey.
