He was preceded in death by his brother, Herb; his sister, Betty; and his mother, Naomi Jane Eubanks. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Loretta Metze Eubanks; his son, Kevin Eubanks; his two beloved grandchildren, Angeles (Blake Fenters) and Sam; and his brother, Don.
Billy attended the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind, where he met Loretta, the love of his life. He later dedicated 30 years of service as a medical transcriber for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health before retiring.
He had a passion for gardening and took special pride in growing roses. He especially loved spending time with his family, whether it was cooking out, enjoying banana pudding, or simply being with his grandchildren, whom he adored.
Billy faced many challenges throughout his life but did so with courage and grace, never complaining and always inspiring those around him. He never met a stranger and will be remembered as a kind, faithful man who lived with love and resilience.
Billy and Loretta shared a remarkable partnership. Together, they were often seen shopping downtown, Loretta pushing his wheelchair while Billy guided her path. A true reflection of their love and devotion to one another.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the St. Andrews Lutheran Church Youth Group.
