

Harold was born March 2, 1932 in Ware, Massachusetts. He was the son of Leroy Herbert and Helen Ida (Dick) Pollard. He graduated from North Brookfield High School in 1950. In 1950 he relocated to New Jersey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War from November 1952 until November 1954. He was honorably discharged October 31, 1960 from the U.S. Army. Harold retired from the New Jersey Department of Corrections after 26 years of service in 1984. After retirement, he began his second career with Heritage Engineering as a site inspector for 10 years.
In 1962, Harold married Ellen Jean O’Neill and settled in Milford, New Jersey. He was an active member of the community serving on the town council, zoning, planning and library board. Harold was the zoning officer for the Borough of Milford. He was a member of the Milford Presbyterian Church and served on the Board of Deacons. After relocating to South Carolina in 1994, Harold stayed involved in his community by serving as his Homeowners Association president for many years.
Harold led an active life and had many hobbies. He enjoyed golfing with his sons, grandsons and friends. In his golfing career he had three holes in one and shot under his age. Harold and his wife enjoyed traveling; two of his favorite places to visit were Biloxi, Mississippi and Atlantic City, New Jersey. They were avid campers for over 50 years including a trip across the country. Harold would never turn down a game of cards; he always enjoyed a game of cards with friends as well as a game of Monopoly with family.
He is survived by his bride of over 62 years, Ellen Jean (O’Neill) of Prosperity, SC, children Harold Walter Pollard Jr., (Melissa) of Lexington, SC, Patricia Ann Taylor (Paul) of Chapin, SC, and Brian Scott Pollard (Kerry) of Tavares, FL; his seven grandchildren, Andrew Paul Taylor (Sarah), Kelsey Taylor Lynch (William), Zachary Douglas Taylor, Harold Walter Pollard III, Nolan Dwight Pollard, Joshua Edward Pollard and Riley Scott Pollard; and his four great-grandchildren, Taylor Grace Lynch, Camden Christopher Lynch, Miller Fincher Lynch and Ava Drew Taylor. He is also survived by his sister Marion Lifter, brother David Pollard (Mary Lou), sister-in-law Mary Alice Pollard and brothers-in-law Ronald O’Neill (Sarah), and Lawrence O’Neill (Stephanie), and many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his sister Mabel Ann Kennett (Alden), brother Herbert Lee Pollard, and brother-in-law Richard Lifter.
Visitation for Harold will be held Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home-Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow St., Irmo, SC 29063. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 PM. A burial following the service will be held at Newberry Memorial Gardens, 15127 C.R. Koon Hwy, Newberry, SC 29108. Serving as pallbearers will be the grandsons and grandson-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Boys Town of Newberry, SC, Salvation Army or Disabled American Vets.
