

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for James Ronald Coleman, 82, will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, February 28, 2025 at St. Andrews Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 12:00 noon prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Coleman died on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Finous Coleman and Edna Spires Coleman. A graduate of Mt. Zion Institute High School in Winnsboro, SC, he attended Furman University where he met Jeanie and pitched for the baseball team. He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity with whom he made lifelong friendships in.
He was also preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Jeanie Mitchell Coleman. They were married for 53 years and built a beautiful life and family together.
Mr. Coleman served in the Army Reserves and worked in the textiles industry for forty plus years.
Jim was a member of The Carolinian Society and St. Andrews Baptist Church. He took on a very active role in his children’s lives, serving as PTA President, and coaching baseball at Seven Oaks Park. He was fiercely loyal and loved witty banter.
Surviving are his son, James “Jay” Ronald Coleman, Jr.; daughters, Carol Coleman Bennett (Tim) and Suzanne Coleman Jones (Fort); grandchildren, Carly Sawyer (Sam), Coleman Bennett, Caroline Bennett, Sarah Gray Jones, Malcolm Jones, James “Jack” Coleman, III, and Bryant Coleman; great-granddaughter, Isla Gray Sawyer; and sister, Alicia Pope (Bill).
A special Thank You to his nurses Hunter, Hannah, and Telisa as well as the entire staff of the Jasmine Wing at NHC Healthcare. They never let Jim go without his nightly Scotch or his morning coffee.
