

Jerry spent his childhood in Atlanta and enlisted in the US Army in 1958 where he served honorably in Columbia, SC; Fairbanks, AK; El Paso, Texas; including multiple tours in Korea and Germany until his retirement in 1978 as Chief Warrant Officer. During his service, he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Army Commendation Medal among several others. Upon his retirement, he relocated to Columbia and was employed by Allied Chemical Co until his second retirement.
Jerry’s life was dedicated to his family, friends and his faith. He served as a deacon and later as an Elder at St. Andrews Rd. church of Christ. He was involved in mission work often preaching at various mission points around South Carolina. He was dedicated to serving widows and orphans within the church community as well. He was often found hosting visitors or church members in his home for meals or overnight accommodations.
Jerry was married for 49 years to Shelby Yenny of Columbia. Together they traveled the world and raised an incredible family. They created a marriage and life characterized by hospitality and love. Shelby passed away in 2008. In 2011 he married Shirley Dockray of Cheraw, SC. They had a happy and fun-loving marriage. For the past few years, Shirley has been a dedicated and loving caregiver to Jerry bringing him much comfort and happiness.
Jerry is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter, Susan (Mike) Ryan of Locust Grove, GA and Jay (Nan) Satterfield of Milan, TN. Four grandchildren Janon, Caleb (Malarie), Camille (Brandon), and Coleman (Alyssa): and three great-grandchildren Samuel Benton, RJ, and Shelbie Brooke. He is also survived by brother, Joe Satterfield of Marietta, GA; Jayne (James) Osburn of Hoschton, GA, as well as Shirley’s son Phillip (Malinda), and grandson Cam (Kellen). Jerry was blessed with an abundance of nephews and nieces, and great nephews and nieces, and even a great, great niece.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Andrews Road, church of Christ in Columbia, SC on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, with visitation at one o’clock and funeral service at two o’clock. Interment will follow at Bush River Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Southeastern Children’s Home.
