John Manning Bolt, 74, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020, following a long illness. Born in Champaign, IL, he was the oldest son of the late Major General Jones E. Bolt and Margaret Irene Cox Bolt. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. John had a continued appreciation for the military as he was an enthusiast and a wealth of knowledge in regards to military aircraft.
John met his wife, Elsa, while living in Florida but they made Columbia their home 40 years ago. An I.T. “Guru”, he kept up and managed the computer system at Boyd Property Management where he worked to make sure all computers were in sync with one another. He retired following numerous years of service.
As an outdoorsman and lover of nature, John was fond of animals, especially dogs and reptiles, having a true admiration for snakes.
Surviving are his wife, Elsa and brother, Robert E. Bolt. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his youngest brother, Charles “Chuck” Raymond Bolt.
