CHAPIN - Jonnie Hiller Sites, 92, widow of N. Ray Sites, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Born May 4, 1924 in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late John Green and Orrie Shealy Hiller. She married her childhood sweetheart and they were blessed with five children. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and in the mid 40’s was employed by the Lowman Home in White Rock. After raising her family, in 1970 she was employed as a bus driver for students attending kindergarten in Lexington-Richland Five. For the next 21 years she was known as “Miss Jonnie” and she loved each of the students on her bus like they were her own. During her later years she enjoyed sharing her many “school bus” stories with family and friends. She was blessed with natural storytelling ability and a quick wit. She was known to recite old Dutch Fork colloquialisms and could brighten a room with her contagious smile. She held so much between the old days and now. Her passing brings an end to an incredible era. Through it all, she held onto her strong faith and determination. Her legacy will live on in the many lives that she touched. She was a life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church in White Rock, SC and an avid Clemson fan. Mrs. Sites is survived by her family, primarily of Chapin: daughters, Robin (Gerald) Lindler, Laura (Mike) Bull and Amee (Jason) White; grandchildren, Dawn L. Daniels, Jill L. Bowers, Brendan Bull (New Orleans, LA), Bonnie Bull (Charleston SC) and Harrison White; and great-grandchildren, Gracyn Daniels, Lauren Daniels and Tommy Bowers; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Susan Sites and Sallee Sites; granddaughter, Kelly L. Watts; brothers, Bob Hiller, Heyward, Hiller and J. Travers Hiller; and sister, Virginia H. Haltiwanger. A special thank you to the wonderful caregivers that came into her home, Tracy Livingston and Kim Smoak. They were angels sent from Heaven. “Mama J” loved them and we cannot express in words how much their loving care meant to us. We would also like to thank Dr. Carroll Pinner and staff, Amedisys Home Health and Blue Ridge Hospice. Due to their care and support we were able to grant mama’s wishes to keep her home. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Bethel Lutheran Church. Presiding minister for the service will be the Reverend Roy Butler and burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive family and friends before the service from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel is assisting the family and memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 2081 Dutch Fork Road PO Box 367, White Rock SC 29177.
