A Joyful Celebration of Life for Mrs. Juanita Hayden Hope will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Union United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Aline Leitner Sunday School Class. Burial will be held at a later date in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery near Norway, SC. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, who is assisting the family.
Juanita passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Born in Orangeburg on July 5, 1937, she was the only daughter of Hugo Whetsell Hayden, Jr. and Lula Belle Judy Hayden. She lived in Charleston, SC until the age of ten when her family moved to Norway, SC. She graduated from Norway High School and attended Columbia College. In June 1958, Juanita married James Kelly “J.K.” Hope, III of Columbia and began her life as an Air Force Officer’s wife which she so enjoyed. When J.K. retired in 1978, they moved to Irmo, SC where she made many wonderful friends. Juanita spent ten happy years working with the South Carolina Forestry Commission.
An active member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, Juanita was a member of the Aline Leitner Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Lillie Bouknight Circle. She, along with her sweet husband J.K., prepared breakfast for the Senior High Youth each week for many years. She was also a very active member of the Greater Columbia Ostomy Support Group for many years. Juanita was strong in faith, full of life, and touched all who knew her.
Surviving are her daughter, Judy Hope Soltis; two sons, Michael James Hope, Stuart and Renee Hope; five precious grandchildren, Stephen Kelly Soltis (Mary), Hunter Soltis, Hayden Soltis, Melissa Hope, and Stuart Hayden Hope, Jr.; and one great-granddaughter, Kelly Soltis. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, J.K. Hope; son-in-law, Stephen Soltis; and her only brother Whetsell Hayden.
