

Born in Nashville, TN, she was the oldest child of the late Reverend Doctor James D. Taylor and Virginia Griggs Taylor. She was the wife of 55 years, of Dr. Wendel Lewis Nixon. Judy attended TNU and obtained a Licensed Practical Nursing certification. While living in Germany she served as Registrar for the University of Maryland for the Crailshiem Army Post. At Chapel Hill, NC she served in the Chief Medical Examiner for the state of NC. Moving to Columbia,SC she worked as Office Manager for her husband’s Orthodontic practice and then became a full-time loving Mom for her three children Michael, Taylor and Ella.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a, son, Michael Nixon; daughters, Taylor Nixon and Dr. Ella Firtko (Matthew); brother, Dr. James D. Taylor (Karla); sister, Janet Taylor (Dr. Melinda Borthick); and her grandchildren, Chaim Diluvian, Ivy Diluvian, Griffin Firtko, Hayes Firtko, Townes Nixon Wiley.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene at 4:00pm on Sunday, May 17th, 2026. The family will celebrate with friends in the church gymnasium immediately after the service.
