

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Lawrence “Larry” Warren McPherson, 82, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2025, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
Mr. McPherson died Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Born in Glenville, West Virginia, Larry was the son of the late William and Floda Mae McPherson. He graduated from Burnsville High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving in the military, he started his career as an X-ray technician at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga., where he met Linda, the love of his life to whom he was married nearly 58 years.
Larry retired from South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism where he spent most of his career as a state park ranger at various parks across the state including at Dreher Island State Park on Lake Murray.
Larry’s love for his family was always present. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time that he was able to spend with family and friends. He loved the time that he was able to spend at his son’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda McPherson; sons, Jeff (Denise) and Brian (Karen); grandchildren, Nick (Lauren),
Nathan, Skyler, Tanner, McKenzie; great-grandchild, Eliana; sibling, Ilene Lowther (Vanzel); several in-laws, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his in-laws, Baxter and Myrtle Greene.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care Charity Inc./MSA Hospice.
