The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Mary Krueger Eargle was born May 6, 1936 to German immigrant Dr. Walther Krueger and his wife Frances Stevenson Krueger, a native to South Carolina. She was a graduate of Dreher High School. Whenever asked about her high school years, Mary would recall riding her horse through the halls. Mary attended and worked for the University of South Carolina. She retired from the Department of Juvenile Justice in the Purchasing Office in the early 1990s. Mary was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church where she remained a lifelong member. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on camping trips, was an avid gardener and had a love of nature. Mary had a special affinity for the ducks which inhabit Lake Murray and would often spend hours watching them from her backyard. She was an amateur photographer and would often ask her grandchildren to pose for pictures, much to their consternation, and enjoyed photographing nature as well as lighthouses. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Frank W. Eargle Sr., her parents Dr. and Mrs. Walther Krueger, sisters Betty Lou Krueger and Ann Krueger Demos, and brothers Gordon “Sonny” Krueger and Horst Kruegerschmidt. Surviving are her children, M. Frances Eargle of Washington, DC and Columbia, and Frank W. Eargle II (Lynn) of Irmo, grandchildren F. William Eargle III (Karen) of Irmo and A. Rhiannon Eargle of Irmo. She leaves behind a cherished Dachshund named Grettal. Memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N.
