

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Mitylene “Mitzi” DuPre Matthews, 94, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Dutch Fork Baptist Church, with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park following the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Matthews passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert Clark DuPre and Mitylene Wysong DuPre. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Coker College. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing Bridge and tennis. She was a founding member of Maple Street Southern Methodist Church, where she attended for many years. Following the death of her husband, Budd, she joined and was a faithful member of Dutch Fork Baptist Church. For more than 50 years, she found joy in teaching the Bible and sharing her faith in Jesus with others.
Surviving are her daughters, Lettie M. Gilligan (Tom), Jeanne M. Cothran (Chris), and Kay M. Weatherly (Alex); grandchildren, Jayson (Katie), Meggan, Patrick (Nikki), Will, Cade (Angela), James (Ashley-Fiancée & son Anthony), Jillian (James), and Clark (Hannah-Fiancée); great-grandchildren, Ryan, Conor, Isla, Harper, Cannon, Grace, Brandes , Joel, Annalise, and Rivie; brother, Gilbert Clark DuPre (Marge); sister-in-law Florence Matthews; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Jasper Manus Talbert, and her second husband, Budd Cade Matthews.
The family wishes to thank Susie Straka, Delores Jackson, Mary Peterson and all the staff at Caring Health Care. We would also like to thank the Care Team at Amedisys and with special thanks to Chaplain Maurice Webber.
In honor of Mitzi, the family is encouraging everyone to wear red to the service.
