

Born in Lancaster, South Carolina, Steve was the son of the late Brack Thomas Wilson and Fannie Elise Wilson. He was a proud graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and Clemson University, where he earned a B.A. in Zoology. He later received a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama.
Steve devoted 35 years of distinguished service to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, retiring at the rank of Major. Following his retirement, he continued his commitment to public safety by serving as an instructor at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy for 10 years.
A member of Dutch Fork Church, Steve was a man of many passions. He was an avid competitive shooter, arrowhead hunter, and fisherman who loved the outdoors and the challenge of the hunt.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Gale Hiott Wilson; son, Stephen Dale Wilson, Jr. (Abby); daughter, Jensen Baltzegar; granddaughter, River Ann Wilson; brothers, Tommy Wilson (Mary Gwen) and Russell Wilson (Susie); sister, Julie Barnes (Gary); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC 29063. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dutch Fork Church Cemetery, 3517 Dreher Shoals Road, Irmo, SC 29063.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
