Suzanne Powell Riley

Born Nov. 6 1946, in Asheville, NC, she grew up in Charlotte, NC. Suzanne was a daughter of the late Joseph Finley Powell, Jr. and Martha Louise Storie Powell. A graduate with her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of South Carolina, she taught public high school for 33 years, mostly at Irmo and Chapin High School. Suzanne was a wonderful teacher and continued to follow many of her students often beyond their graduation. In her spare time, she loved to play golf and bridge. She was a very loving wife, and mother, and mother-in-law.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Robert Ford Riley, III (Kelly) of Nashville, TN; her sister, Joan Frickhoeffer of Statesville, NC; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph F. Powell, III.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 13, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at The Anglican Cathedral Church of the Epiphany, 2512 North Beltline Blvd, Columbia, SC 29204, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one’s charity of choice.
