

Age 89, of Jackson passed away on November 11, 2021 at Allegiance Hospice Home.
He was born March 28, 1932 to Ralph and Helen Bruey in Lisbon, Ohio and graduated from David Anderson High School in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1953, and returned to Ohio to marry Marie Dorff in 1956. Fred graduated from Fenn College in Cleveland, and did a work-study program with NASA. After Fenn, he and Marie moved to East Lansing where Fred earned his Masters Degree in Mathematics. He worked for Consumers Power for 23 years until his retirement in 1987. He ran a successful custom software business following retirement. Fred and Marie celebrated their 62nd anniversary shortly before her death in 2018.
Fred was a member of the Jackson Banjo Club, the Jackson French Quarter Dixieland Band, the Jackson Civic Art Association, and the Cascades Amateur Radio Society, as well as a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a prolific writer of poetry and technical books, and pursued a wide variety of hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed welding and creating public sculptures in his retirement, two of which were featured on the grounds of Ella Sharp Park.
He is survived by his brother David; children, Mary Helen Bruey, John (Cheryl) Bruey, and Donald (Jennifer) Bruey; grandchildren, Ann (David) Karmol, Laura (Matt) Judge, Daniel Lawton, Mark Bruey, Kevin Bruey, and Alia Bruey; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael Karmol. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; his mother and father; sister Naomi Patterson; and brother Ronald.
There will be a private, family-only service on Monday, November 15 at 6:00 pm. A live stream of the service can be viewed on YouTube on the "Immanuel Lutheran Jackson Michigan" channel, and a recording will be available there eventually.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Jackson Interfaith Shelter.
