

Of Jackson, MI passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the age of 90 at Hillsdale Hospital. Earl was born on March 19, 1930 in Jackson, MI to parents Earl and Gladys (Clark) Carpenter. He married Loretta June Decker on February 19, 1955. Earl attended Jackson High School, participating in swimming, track, and cross country, graduating in 1949. Earl worked at Central City lumber during high school and until 1951 when he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Custer and then served in Korea in the artillery until he was discharged in 1956. He worked at Hostlers in Tecumseh as a cabinet maker and then moved his family to Addison in 1959. He worked at The Kitchen Shop in Jackson as an installer until his retirement and moved back to Jackson in 1981. Earl was a resident of Jackson until 2014 and has been a resident at Hillsdale County Medical Care for the past 5 years. Earl loved to read, travel and camp, bird watching, woodworking and HO trains. He is survived by his children Janet (David) Roper, Christine (Skip) Pratt, Bonnie Roan, John Carpenter, and Lois (Gary) Cooper; grandchildren Duane (Stacey) Towers, Eric (Jeanette) Towers, Julie (Caesar) Brown, Melissa Cramer, Charity Cramer, Gabrial Cramer, Thomas (Shay) Roan, Andrew (Randee) Roan, Kristin (Brian) Conrad, Gary (Jenete) Cooper, Marcel Cooper, and Maurice Cooper; great grandchildren Kyle, Alana, Nevaeh, Sonya, Breanna, Claira, Eric, Jaqury, Jalen, Jasymn, Destiny, Alexis, Salone, Peyton, Tavion, Akira, Braelee, Jase, Braysan, Lyla, Jack, Bryn, Landin, Damian, Nehemiah, Amina, and Aila; and great great grandchildren Seth, Keniyah, Amiyah, Paislee, DeOvion, and Damiere. He is preceded in death by his parents, former wife Loretta June (Decker) Carpenter, daughter Celia Marie Carpenter, sister Phyllis (Robert) Bellmer, son-in-law Lurly Roan, and great granddaughter Courtney Seckman. Due to COVID-19, the family has chosen to have a private service. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 4, 2020 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home, 406 First Street, Jackson, MI. He will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI with military honors. Due to the mandate from the CDC and State of Michigan, social distancing is required along with the use of masks.
