

Elizabeth Sims passed away at Allegiance Hospice on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the age of 78. Liz was born in Madison County, Mississippi to Sarah Shavers-Johnson and Lee Earl Sims who are both deceased.
Liz moved to Jackson, Michigan at an early age and was raised by her step-mother, Eldora Sims and father, Lee Earl Sims. Liz attended school in Michigan. She was employed at the old Mercy Hospital and Foote Hospital in the surgical unit. Liz later worked for Dr. Stackable as his scrub nurse before moving on to Ryerson Hayes Company.
Liz attended the A.M.E. Church in Flint, Michigan but her home Church was the Community A.M.E. Church in Jackson, Michigan where she was a member of the choir and served on the kitchen committee of the Community A.M.E. Church.
Liz leaves to mourn her step-mother, Eldora Sims, who she affectionately called ‘mamma’; her siblings, Mary Ross, Clara Shavers, Willy Shavers, Jr. of Canton, Mississippi, Leo Thomas of Chicago, Illinois; her family, Earl Michael (Robyn) Sims and Carvis (Patricia) Pope of Denver, Colorado and Lee Dora Sims-Joplin of Jackson, Michigan. Liz’s sisters, Christine Davis of Detroit, Michigan and Lillian Pope of Jackson, Mississippi along with her father, Lee Earl Sims preceded Liz in death.
A Home Going Celebration is scheduled at the funeral h ome on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 12:00 noon with the Reverend Dr. Joe Funchess officiating. Family will receive friends for visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. She will be laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery.
