George Hurt was born on May 20, 1932 to Chester and Willie T. Hurt. In Villa Ridge Illinois. He went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2020 at the age of 87,under the care of Hospice in Muskegon, MI.
He enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954 where he was awarded National Defense Service Medal, United National Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with 2 bronze campaign stars. Upon honorable separation from active duty, he served an additional 6 years in the reserves.
He was united in holy matrimony to Jewell Anniebell Woolfolk on September 3,1954. To this union were born 7 children: a baby boy who died shortly after birth, Lester, Cynthia, Cornelius, Bertram, Sondra (Allie), and Yvette. George moved to Jackson, MI and was later employed at Clark Equipment where he retired.
He was lovingly referred to as the “inventor.” His favorite line was “I'm making junk out of junk”, which was exactly what he did. He was always doing something to keep busy. He was a Mr. Fix It. If he didn’t know how to fix it, he was going to figure it out. He also played the harmonica and piano by ear. George had a big heart. He was always willing to do whatever he could for anybody. It was nothing strange for him to give you his last dollar. He would dig deep in those overall pockets and pull out change if he had to.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Willie Hurt; Brothers. Dexter, Virgil, William and Vernon Hurt; Sisters, Theola Cox and Fern Waddy; Wife, Jewell Anniebell, and Son, Lester Hurt.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sister Zelma Flanagan of Lansing, MI; Sister-in-Laws, Geneva Johnson (Dexter) of Jackson, MI, and Rosie Hurt (William) of Peoria, IL; his Children, Cynthia, Cornelius, and Sonda Hurt all of Jackson, MI, Bertram Hurt of Louisville, KY, and Yvette Hurt (Glenn) of Muskegon, MI and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
