

Passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2020 in Jackson, MI. She was 96 years old. Gerry was born on September 14th, 1923 in Barlow, KY to her parents, Herbert and Pearl (Kirkland) Newton. She moved to Jackson, MI where she met and married Ray D VanMarter in 1944. She was married a second time to Erwin Scott; and also had a 20+ year special friend, Jacob Kapuga. She enjoyed many years working for Kent-Moore as a switch board operator where her outgoing personality was able to shine. She retired in 1983 and dedicated her remaining time to family, friends, travel, and her local church. Gerry was a dedicated mother and treasured her time with family. She had a vivacious personality and always made people laugh especially when doing her “Minnie Pearl” impersonation. She made countless friends and touched many lives. Gerry Scott is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Caroline (Rampy) VanMarter of Jackson, MI; her two grandchildren, Ronald “Todd” VanMarter (Tamera VanMarter) and Angela Walton; six great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. All of these she loved and touched deeply. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Pearl Newton; and two sisters, Pauline Weaver and Azalea Daglow. Gerry Scott will be buried in a private ceremony on March13th, 2020. A 12:30pm memorial luncheon will follow at Encounter church to celebrate the life and love of Geraldine Scott.
