

Jerry Dean Scott passed away on April 21, 2022 at the age of 91. He was born in Jackson, Michigan on November 3, 1930 to Howard F. and Mildred E. Scott. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy, son-in-law, Art Hedlund, and granddaughter, Amy BeVier Rippee. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty; daughters Melissa BeVier (Dave Yeomans) and Andrea Hedlund; grandson, Tyler BeVier (Sue); great grandchildren Leland BeVier, Eden and Wade Austin and Kodie Rippee; and two friends that he thought of as family, Harvey Ambs and Mark Harris. Jerry worked on the family dairy farm as a teenager and delivered milk for Scott’s Dairy. Jerry graduated from Jackson High School in 1949 and served in the Air Force from 1950-1954 in the Military Police and as a member of the honor guard for President Dwight Eisenhower. After leaving the military, Jerry attended barber school and barbered for over 45 years. Together with Betty, they also developed and built three successful businesses in Jackson, the Northwest Barbershop, Northwest Coiffeurs, and the Dairy Treat. He and Betty also sold hundreds of Christmas trees on a farm they hand planted. Jerry enjoyed deer hunting, walleye fishing, boating, snowmobiling, ice skating, water and snow skiing all until his early 80’s. He was a member of the Jackson Radio Control Airplane Club building and flying many planes and an avid Red Wings fan. Jerry and Betty shared their love of the outdoors with their daughters and grandson over the years at the cottage on Lake Leelanau. They were happy summers with the most delicious walleye dinners cooked by Jerry with Betty’s famous beer batter. Jerry dearly loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and friend. He had a zest for life, strong ethics, determination, and was loved by all who knew him. He was a good, honorable man. His mantra was, “If it isn’t fun, it isn’t worth doing”.
