

Joyce W. Oberst of Jackson, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on May 7, 2026, at the age of 92. She passed away peacefully under the compassionate care of Otterbein Senior Life (formerly Vista Grande Villa) and Henry Ford Hospice.
Joyce was born on September 16,1933 in Ganges Township, Mi, the daughter of Robert and Mary Walter of Oak Park, IL. Joyce graduated in 1951 from Oak Park/River Forest Hight School. On March 26, 1955, she married Robert K. Oberst in Oak Park, Il. Joyce is survived by her four sons: Robert (Debra) of Jackson; Larry of Byron Center, MI; Timothy (Paula) of Delaware, OH; and Thomas (Cristy) of Jackson; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; sister Susan Napolitano (Tony) of Brookfield, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents, granddaughter Katie and great-granddaughter Cheyenne.
Joyce was an active member of the American Business Women’s Association for over 30 years. A life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church for seventy years, she retired from Trinity Lutheran Church after serving as the Financial Secretary for several years. She was also very active with her husband Bob in Lions Club International. As a resident of Vista Grande Villa for over 25 years, Joyce remained continually active in her “retirement community”. Serving as the activity’s director of the Villa for many years, Joyce’s mission in life was to always bring joy and comfort to every person she would meet. And there was never a person she would not go out of her way to befriend. She was passionate for her Lord, always willing to serve others and the happiest worshiping and communing in fellowship with the many families of Trinity Lutheran Church.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 122 W. Wesley St., Jackson on June 6, 2026 beginning at 11:00am with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School Scholarships, Henry Ford Hospice or to Otterbein Senior Life.
